Water Quality Committee  /  B-G Season Update

We are officially in B-G Algae season with skiffs of the algae being seen on calm mornings and collecting on certain shores and bays with the building winds.   It is very important to check your shorelines for scums before letting pets near the water….. they will drink from the scum which would have concentrated toxin levels. With windy conditions the scums break up and mix back in the water column so sometimes it just takes a little patience for things to clear up for some swimming on your shoreline.

The Water Testing Team will be monitoring the water quality closely in the coming weeks and will begin toxin testing when the clarity and other factors determine the need.

Also, there are still a few biochar bags on a skid outside of the boat launch. Feel free to take one or two to place along your shoreline. The best installation is to hang the bag with a rope  from your dock if you have one so that the bag is suspended in the water and not touching the lake bottom. The bag will float initially but will soon sink into the water as it becomes saturated.
